Birthday Cards

The content of Birthday cards change drastically as you progress in age. When you are younger age, about 20, your cards are very positive and focus on how great it is to be older and that your adult life is just beginning and you are finally recognized as an adult. Once you become about 50 and "over the hill" your cards have a tendency to become more humorous and try to make light of the fact that you are getting old. They talk about your body getting worse, wrinkles coming and the fact that you pretty much have to accomplish anything you want to do soon! This is when cards talk about mid life crises and then once you get to old it focuses on the memories you have had and living what you have left of life to its fullest. It becomes more serious and more caring and kind to peoples feelings.

Eriksons theory on development states that "it is to maintain ego integrity (holding on to ones sense of wholeness) while at the same time, avoiding despair (fearing that there is too little time to begin a new life course)". If one can do this they will not regret there way of life and how they lived it. Also they will be able to cope with death a lot easier than others who worry about it too much. They said that no matter what everyone thinks about how there life would be different if they have chosen a different lifestyle.

What i have learned in Psychology is....

So far in Psych we have gone over a lot of information that i have already learned in my 2 previous Psychology classes i have taken in RLHS. We had learned about the different psychologists, ways to study different things, and we studied how genes play a role in how we behave. I liked learning about the different ways you can study things and the best way to find out information using control and experimental groups. The most surprising thing i think we have discussed is the role that genes play in our behavior and trying to determine if its nature or nurture that plays a more dominant role in figuring out what affects us more! I like learning about how and why people are the way they are.
I would like to know how psychologists get people to believe that their theories are correct and what makes them think that they are?!
Is psychology based on what is normal and is there even one way to categorize what is normal? Is there even such a thing as normal?
What makes Psychology such an important science and why did people think that it was important to figure out why people behave the way they do!

P-retty much the best class i have!
S-igmund Frued and Erik Erikson are my favorite Psychologists!
Y- ou never know what you may discover when you do studies!
C-hildhood to adulthood! Psychology is the study of everyone and everything!
H-ow i love to learn!
O-nly the best teacher for my favorite class!
L-ove learning about all the different reasons I am how I am!
O-h its great!!
G-eez how i wish i could learn more!!
Y-ep... i love Pscyhology!

Introduction

My name is Desiree Scheller. I am 17 and a Senior at Rib Lake High School. I have lived in Rib Lake my whole life with my mom, dad, and my three brothers Damian, Drew and Dylan.  I have a tendency to think about things in a way that is how i would like to see things happening in the future than a logical way. I am a visual learner and the more pictures and things that i can see the better i will be able to process information. I do this very slowly and i believe that it takes me a while to catch on to school work but song lyrics and skating routines somehow have a way of staying in my head a lot easier than anything else. I have a tendency to space out during long lectures but power points and such things keep my focus a little better. I have learned to tolerate people to the point that i can get along with anyone until they do something to upset me and after i lose trust in a person i really dont have the patience to deal with people who have done something to make me question their intentions. I have learned this through watching my older brothers relationships and some of my own also. My brother Damian has probably taught me the most about life and he has helped me any time i needed it. Previous relationships have also taught me a lot and that no matter how much you would like to sometimes you just cant fix things that have happened in your past. I would have to say that i take after my mom in my personality sense and what i think of others and how i see the world. I take after Damian in most of my bad driving habits and we have a lot of the same views on relationships and how to deal with people.

This is psychological because it describes me and how i see the world and that is what Psychology is all about... how people see themselves and the things around them.
